Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors
RUMWThe Rhome United Methodist Women are involved in many activities throughout the year, and typically meet after the Church luncheon on the first Sunday of the month. The next regularly scheduled meeting of RUMW will be after lunch on Sunday, October 3rd.
One of RUMW's activities involves coordinating the Rhome Spirit of Christmas drive. Rhome's local banks, Wells Fargo and Woodhaven, set up Christmas trees each year where Angels are displayed containing the wish lists of disadvantaged children in the community. The banks also collect donations to help fulfill the wish lists. RUMW creates the Angels each year and assists in the compilation of gifts for the children. Money collected is also spent to provide a Christmas dinner for the child's entire family. Preparation for the Spirit of Christmas activities begins right after the previous year's Christmas. RUMW also participates in the "Shawl Ministry". The idea came from the book, Knitting into the Mystery. Shawls are knitted throughout the United States, and generally contain some pattern of "three." These patterns of three can be found in every religion and society. Human existence has three stages: birth, life, and death. Time has three divisions: past, present, and future. The panorama of colors is based upon three primary colors. The human being has three parts: body, mind, and spirit. The Virtues typically mentioned together are faith, hope, and love. The rythm of the waltz is 1-2-3. Also, our Faith in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The shawls, once knitted, are distributed to local nursing homes. |
